The 1950s were an interesting and important decade for the automotive industry. The economic boom of the period led to a number of developments still enjoyed today.
Air conditioning, power brakes, power steering, seat belts, and automatic transmission were just a few of the technologies that were either developed or significantly improved upon during the decade. It would be hard to imagine a world now without these features! The 1950s also led to the birth of the overhead-valve V8 engine; a pivotal change in automotive history.
By the end of the 1950s, most smaller automakers were either out of business or had been consolidated with the bigger names. Rapid technological change made it too hard for them to compete. The main automakers at the time shaped out to be Ford, Chrysler, GMC, Studebaker, and AMC.
So strap on that seat belt and get that engine going. It's time to put your skills to the test and see if you can still identify these classic cars from the '50s!
